Lake Nona’s developer took another step forward this month on its plans to create a new massive mixed-use community on the eastern edge of Orange and Osceola counties.
Tavistock Development Co. LLC, which has been putting together two separate plans for the new 24,000-acre Sunbridge, got the thumbs up from the Osceola County Commission to set up a community development district (CDD) for a 711.3-acre chunk of land on the southern portion of the project.
The Osceola commission on June 13 approved an ordinance to establish the new CDD, including setting up external boundaries for the district, designating the CDD would have a five-person board of supervisors and more, county documents showed.
Tavistock’s planned Sunbridge is a new community spanning non-contiguous land that is three times larger than Lake Nona.
The 4,787-acre Orange County piece of the project features a plan for 5,720 single-family homes, 1,650 multifamily units, 5.5 million square feet of office space, 2.9 million square feet of industrial facilities, 880,000 square feet of retail and 490 hotel rooms.
Plans are still in the works for the remaining 19,111 acres in Osceola, which are part of a project being called Northeast District just a few miles south of Lake Nona.
In all, Tavistock as master developer of Sunbridge expects to develop less than half of the overall acreage, with the rest being either wetlands or preservation.
